Frequently Asked Questions

What is the origin of sin?

Q: What is the origin of sin?

A: Adam and Eve were the first humans created in the image of God and they were placed in the Garden of Eden. However, they disobeyed God’s command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This disobedience resulted in the separation of man from God and the introduction of death into the world. However, it is not because of one man’s sin that all people must face death.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”

“Everyone will die for their own sin …”

As Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, so all people sinned against God and must be held accountable for their own transgressions. Then, what is our original sin?

The Bible explains that all humans were once angels in heaven before being born on Earth (Pro 8:22–26). However, we were cast down to Earth for committing sin against God in heaven. This event is described through the stories of the King of Babylon and the King of Tyre (Isa 14:4, 12–15, Eze 28:11–17), which shows how we became proud and sinned before being cast down by God. It is because of sin that people are now separated from God and live on this earth.

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God …”

Therefore, understanding the nature and magnitude of this sin is crucial for repentance and reconciliation with God. For this reason, Christ came to earth and promised forgiveness of our sins in heaven and on earth through the New Covenant Passover.
