Female Image of God

The Female Image of God in the Bible

God’s people are making earnest efforts to change their nature to be made in God’s image. For this reason, knowing God correctly and understanding the image of God is very important (Jn 17:3).

“… see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”

Reflecting the glory of God is possible as God’s people are made in the image of God. However, according to the Bible, this glorious image has been a mystery for ages.

“they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Jesus Christ came in the flesh as the male image of God and brought salvation to his people, but this is not a mystery. There must be some other aspect of God’s image that remains a mystery. Let’s examine it more carefully in the story of creation.

“God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:27

Contrary to popular belief, the image of God is not only male. Since the creation, God spoke in plural when creating mankind. By this verse we can realize that God’s image has always been both male and female. The male image of God has been called Father, but the mysterious female image also has her name, title and purpose.

“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”

The female image of God, the bride, appears on the last page of the Bible granting eternal life (Jn 4:13) with God the Father. Apostle John and Paul identified her name as Jerusalem (Rev 21:9–10).

“But the Jerusalem that is above is free and she is our mother.”

God is our Father, and Jerusalem is God our Mother, the eternal life-giver. Come to the World Mission Society Church of God to learn about the mystery of God the Mother hidden since creation.
