Heavenly Jerusalem, Our Mother
A mother’s love knows no bounds, and she can endure any pain, hardship, or suffering for her children. This eternal sacrifice of a mother is designed by God to illustrate the profound and invisible nature of God’s love.
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made”
Mothers across creation have endured the pain of death for their children, sacrificing their bodies and lives to secure a future for their families. God created mothers in this way to teach about the spiritual eternal life giver who sacrifices for her children to the point of death (Rev 4:11). Apostle Paul testified about her in the early Church of God:
“But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.”
The relationship between God and God’s people is that of parents and children. As all mothers comfort and love their children, so Jerusalem Mother is prophesied to appear and give everlasting love to the children of God.
“Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her … For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts … As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 66:10–13
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me ... Lift up your eyes and look around; all your children gather and come to you. As surely as I live,” declares the Lord, “you will wear them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride.”
