ASEZ WAO Spring Street Cleanup in West Haven

On Sunday, December 1, about 70 ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered for a cleanup on Spring Street in West Haven, CT. West Haven is known for having one of the longest publicly accessible shorelines in the state, and it also leads in coastal resiliency efforts. However, certain areas of the city still need attention, particularly as it continues to develop.

Green Earth Campaign Comes to Spring Street

This cleanup was part of ASEZ WAO’s Green Earth campaign, which aims to reduce pollution, preserve ecosystems, and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign focuses on cleaning up streets, parks, downtown areas, and natural landscapes affected by waste and litter.

During the event, volunteers removed a significant amount of trash, including tires, furniture, and other debris. Their efforts went beyond just cleaning—they also raised awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. Guests at the event saw informational panels about sustainability and environmental stewardship.

State Representative Treneé McGee attended the event to show her support for the volunteers. She praised their commitment to the cause, even in the face of cold weather. “It’s important for all of us to come out and volunteer,” she said. “Even today, in freezing conditions, these ASEZ WAO volunteers are here, happily working to clean an area they don’t even live in. That’s selfless, heroic, and powerful.”

In recognition of their efforts, Representative McGee presented the volunteers with an official citation from the Connecticut House of Representatives. The citation congratulated them for their dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship, stating that the Spring Street cleanup “exemplifies a commitment to improving both our local and global communities.”

The volunteers brought new life to a forgotten area that was completely filled with waste. ASEZ WAO continues to lead by example in the community and understand the endangered state of the environment.
