On Sunday, August 25 81 ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered at Stamford’s largest recreational area, Scalzi Park, to lead a cleanup effort. It features tennis, basketball, volleyball courts, running and hiking trails, a playground and a bocce ball court. It also houses Cubeta Stadium, home to the Stamford American Legions and Babe Ruth baseball teams.

ASEZ WAO Keeps Scalzi Park Beautiful
ASEZ WAO volunteers targeted litter throughout the park, collecting 20 bags of waste. They cleaned up cigarette butts, broken glass, plastic debris, bottle caps, scrap wood, and two graffiti posters. Their efforts are part of ASEZ WAO’s ongoing mission to protect terrestrial ecosystems from environmental pollution and the effects of climate change. In addition, this cleanup aligns with their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to restore health to natural environments.
The volunteers took the opportunity to educate the community about the importance of environmental stewardship. They shared the environmental challenges we face and highlighted the importance of collective action in keeping local areas clean.

Local Officials Show Support for ASEZ WAO at Scalzi Park
ASEZ WAO received strong support from the community, with local leaders showing appreciation. The Stamford Parks & Recreation Manager thanked the volunteers for their work. He also gave his employees a paid day off in recognition of the ASEZ WAO team’s efforts. Lieutenant Jerry Junes of the Stamford Police Department also expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for the service you are providing. It’s efforts like these that truly benefit the City of Stamford.”
Lieutenant Junes further encouraged the volunteers to continue their important work, saying, “I pray, hope, and encourage each and every one of you to keep doing things that others may not see as necessary. Trust in the value of this work—you are making an impact.” To support ASEZ WAO’s mission, Lieutenant Junes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and pledged to help ASEZ WAO meet with the Mayor of Stamford and the Chief of Police to advance environmental efforts in the city.
Recognizing the critical role of environmental stewardship, ASEZ WAO volunteers continue to unite communities in action to preserve and protect our shared environment. To see more events from volunteers in Connecticut, visit our activities page!

It is really encouraging to see so many volunteers gathered to improve the environment. I hope to join an event like this in my area soon! #ASEZWAO
This was such a beautiful and fun day! We took the trip to Scalzi Park in Stamford so that the children and families there could enjoy their recreational time freely and without debris. Just like Christ who gave up his time and energy as the Good Samaritan, being apart of ASEZ WAO gives me an even greater platform to serve others with my energy and time. Great job, everyone! #ASEZWAO
This group of people is so amazing. They are always ready to fold their sleeves and get things done very well. Im so happy to know that there are people who care for our community, children, and environment. Thank you to all the member of the Church of God. Truly, this is the church the carries out God’s will not just with words but with actions.
I was so happy to be a part of this cleanup, and hearing the heartfelt words of the Police Lieutenant made me appreciate the impact of the cleanup even more. Even though most of us live rather far from the park, he was moved that we continue to care for communities beyond our own. That’s the love of God that we try to practice each day, serving those in need wherever they may be. So I’m looking forward to lending a helping hand the next chance we get as well
The members of The Church of God are so proactive about their community and the communities around them. Although they could’ve been in the comfort of their homes they were willing to get their hands dirty. Thank you ASEZ WAO volunteers and the Church for organizing this cleanup!
I live in Stamford, and I’ve never seen a church group clean up the parks.
I’m so happy to be able to participate I these events because I see how many families and children play in the parks and sometimes they’re full of dangerous objects but if everyone cleanup like the members of the church of God, everything would be different there would be no danger for our little children.
I hope to continue helping with cleanup events and making the Glory of God Elohim shine ✨️ Animo!!
Wow! I didn’t know that churches participated in cleanups. It is absolutely beautiful to see that people still care about the environment.
The Church of God did a phenomenal job cleaning up the park! They made the entire experience fun, welcoming, and truly engaging for the community, which inspired others to get involved and give back in their own neighborhoods. This park is a staple for so many families, and thanks to their hard work, it’s now cleaner and a safer environment for everyone to enjoy. I highly recommend participating in one of their upcoming campaigns if you’re looking for a meaningful and uplifting volunteer opportunity.
Amazing! I grew up playing in Scalzi Park in my youth! This directly impact my community and my neighbors. Its amazing to see how the Church of God influences the citizens by leading by example to make the whole world a better place. Good job, its very inspiring and makes me want to join in volunteer efforts too!
This is so beautiful to see everyone to come together to clean up Scalzi Park. I remember what this park use to look like growing up to see what it looks like now and to see how we are coming together to keep it clean is a very beautiful thing. May god bless every helping hand who participated in keeping the park clean.
Once I had a vision to start a business with cleaning the environment this was before COVID hit the world. Then around 2021 or 2022 I was introduced to a huge organization around the world. That was local (which is super amazing) and also had the same idea I had in mind and beyond. Truly lets me know God knows all things. I was able to join in this amazing park clean up where I grew up going to school when I attended Trailblazers Academy before they moved their location. It was great to see the community support come together as well. Can’t wait for the next project in the Stamford area.
I was greatly inspired by Church of God members coming together to clean Scalzi Park. The park looked absolutely amazing after they were done.
I’ve never been a part of a cleanup that was so fun ! Honestly, Church of God made me love volunteerism
