On Sunday, December 1, about 70 ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered for a cleanup on Spring Street in West Haven, CT. West Haven is known for having one of the longest publicly accessible shorelines in the state, and it also leads in coastal resiliency efforts. However, certain areas of the city still need attention, particularly as it continues to develop.
Green Earth Campaign Comes to Spring Street
This cleanup was part of ASEZ WAO’s Green Earth campaign, which aims to reduce pollution, preserve ecosystems, and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign focuses on cleaning up streets, parks, downtown areas, and natural landscapes affected by waste and litter.
During the event, volunteers removed a significant amount of trash, including tires, furniture, and other debris. Their efforts went beyond just cleaning—they also raised awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. Guests at the event saw informational panels about sustainability and environmental stewardship.

State Representative Treneé McGee attended the event to show her support for the volunteers. She praised their commitment to the cause, even in the face of cold weather. “It’s important for all of us to come out and volunteer,” she said. “Even today, in freezing conditions, these ASEZ WAO volunteers are here, happily working to clean an area they don’t even live in. That’s selfless, heroic, and powerful.”
In recognition of their efforts, Representative McGee presented the volunteers with an official citation from the Connecticut House of Representatives. The citation congratulated them for their dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship, stating that the Spring Street cleanup “exemplifies a commitment to improving both our local and global communities.”
The volunteers brought new life to a forgotten area that was completely filled with waste. ASEZ WAO continues to lead by example in the community and understand the endangered state of the environment.

I’m glad to see a group that’s dedicated to taking care of the community. This location had much trash, however, Asez wao did an excellent job removing it. I would definitely love to participate with Asez wao again for more clean ups in the future.
Volunteering at this community clean-up was a very rewarding experience. It felt great to give back, work as a team, and make a positive impact on the environment. Thankful for the opportunity to serve and help keep our community clean.
This street cleanup was especially impactful and fulfilling. This cleanup was very demanding but fulfilling at the same time. It’s great to see the difference that a small group of people can make to a community when working together. I can’t wait to see more cleanups and their success in the future!
I appreciate the wide spectrum of different initiatives they participate in, from local cleanups like this to global issues like mental health. I like their grass-roots approach of trying to effect worldwide change right from our very own community, and think it’s a shining example of how I want to live my life as well. So happy to see the effort of so many even on a cold winter day!
It is amazing to see so many young adults taking action to make their community a better place! They set a good example on how to come together to give back!💚 Great job everyone!
It’s truly wonderful to see so many bright, smiling faces working diligently—despite the weather—to make our community cleaner and brighter. Thank you, ASEZ WAO! Your efforts truly matter.
Seeing the volunteers’ smiling faces warmed my heart. I hope ASEZ can continue working on the environment with joy and I cannot wait to join them in the future.
I was SHOCKED the volunteers were able to gather so much litter and debris during the clean up. I’ve personally seen people drive down this street and throw their trash out of their window on to the side of the road. I decided to join in because of that reason. What ASEZ WAO was able to accomplish is fantastic. Let’s keep it going!!!
It is inspiring to see volunteers come together for their community – The dedication and pure heart of ASEZ WAO volunteers certainly shine through their actions and beautiful smiles, making the world a brighter place for everyone.🫶
Thank you, ASEZ WAO! Acts of service like this spread happiness and hope for the future.
I’m thankful for this opportunity to meet young and youthful individuals who came to the Spring St. and Washington Ave. area to clean and give the local community a facelift. It was very impactful to see the youth in our area be part of an organization that strives to share positivity and diligence with their fellow neighbors in the community. I truly look forward to seeing how far this act of kindness will take this warm and youthful group of ASEZ!
It was an honor to be able to serve my community alongside the vibrant & admirable ASEZ WAO volunteers! I’m looking forward to joining them in future projects!
I was so impressed with the church of God with the West Haven cleanup on the West Spring Street. The debris that accumulated over a long time the church of God was so dedicated and very organized with a smiling faces to complete their mission.
I am SO grateful to have participated in the Spring Street Clean-up in West Haven. This was my first time working with a group of people that were eager to take care and beautify the environment.
As a volunteer and coordinator for this event it was so touching to see everyone in the cold weather with smiles to help. This street has long been an issue for random dumping by people who don’t even live in the area. With a park, school and many homes nearby it was amazing to beautify their hometown. ASEZ WAO members came from all over the state even from Rhode Island to support our initiative to help all communities as one family.
